PEGGY picks 6 movies to pair with ‘Coming of Age’

In Pairings, artists and creators pick the movies that complement their latest work.

Peggy Owens, known as PEGGY, is an indie-pop singer-songwriter whose new EP Coming of Age is out now wherever you get your music!

We asked Peggy to pick a few movies that pair well with each of the six songs on the Coming of Age EP.

Dinner in America (2020)

“Character Development”

This movie has quickly become one of my favorites over this past year. I discovered it recently and fell in love with the message and just overall silly awkwardness of it all. As someone who was often bullied and considered quirky/unique as a kid, it was really special to see a protagonist who I could largely relate to find herself and get the guy of her literal dreams.

Inside Out 2 (2024)

“Panic Attack”

This song is largely based on my personal experience in having an anxiety disorder, and how panic attacks “feel” to me in a musical sense. It’s very hard to replicate that feeling in any type of media but I think Inside Out 2 did an amazing job with this at the end of the film! The chaos that surrounded Anxiety while she largely remained still is indicative of feeling out of control of your own body and mind.

Love, Rosie (2014)

“Friends to Lovers”

I think this is self-explanatory—this movie is quite literally the Friends-to-Lovers archetype! I love the way that they miss each other again and again over time but still end up together in the end. Some things are meant to be.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

“Build A Boy”

This movie is so me coded! I am someone who both seeks out romance while also pushing it away in fear of either being hurt or disappointed in my attempt. This movie is such a comfort to watch, seeing two people who so clearly weren’t looking for anything fall in love with one another makes me feel a lot better about my current predicament.

Scream (1996)

“Talk Shit”

Probably not the choice you would gave expected for this song… But I think the fact that the killer is always someone from within the group is indicative of the song’s themes overall.

Pride and Prejudice (2006)

“Written By A Woman”

I quite literally make references to this movie within this song! Mr. Darcy is the original man written by a woman—need I say more?!
