Brooks Betts of Mayday Parade picks 4 movies to pair with ‘Sad’

In Pairings, artists and creators pick the movies that complement their latest work.

Brooks Betts is a guitarist in the rock band Mayday Parade. Their new album Sad is out now wherever you get your music! We asked Brooks to pick a few movies that pair well with the band’s new album.

Hook (1991)

This movie embodies the spirit of our band through our entire career and the young energy and fascination of the kid that lives inside us. It was a mainstay for me growing up and I’ve watched it countless times, to the point where before every show we huddle up and give a pep talk finished off with an all-hands cheer of “Bangarang!”

Into the Wild (2007)

A great movie about self-reflection and following your passion at any cost. This is best represented in the song “One Day at a Time”.

The Wedding Singer (1998)

Another classic that’s so fun and relatable for all musicians, at least for some part of their career. We never played weddings but we certainly played our fair share of awkward gigs. I feel like “Breakup Song” would have fit perfectly in this soundtrack.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

It’s an overall vibe thing but the song “Promises” is a perfect fit for this movie. The melancholy is strong with this jam.
