Field Trip: 30th Anniversary Celebration of ‘Groundhog Day’

We had the pleasure of attending Groundhog Days in Woodstock, Illinois, for the 30th anniversary celebration of the classic 1993 rom-com Groundhog Day.

The movie was primarily filmed in Woodstock, so we got to enjoy a walking tour of the many filming locations around town. (Scroll for some photo highlights!)

We also wanted to hear from the festival attendees, most of whom were diehard fans of the movie. Our question to them: If you could relive one day in your life over and over again, what would it be?

The walking tour of filming locations began at the Woodstock Opera House, which stood in for The Pennsylvania Hotel in the movie. The tour was led by Bob Hudgins (the movie’s location manager) with an appearance by stuntman Rick LeFevour.

The tour continued into the main square, home to lots of action in the movie.

The location of the puddle Bill Murray steps into repeatedly.

The location of the piano teacher’s house.

The view from the second-floor window of what is now the Cherry Tree Inn B&B, which served as the exterior location of Phil’s bed-and-breakfast and provided the view of what he saw when looking out the window every morning.
